One year ago yesterday I received an email with that exact subject line. Later, the writer was quite embarrassed about the mis-spelling (owing it to the change of computer colors by an 11 year old and nervousness), but I just laughed when I read it and being a self proclaimed shit speller, it made me feel more at ease as we exchanged a quick flurry of electronic letters, which lead to a meeting at a Starbucks one year ago today, the same one that now happens to be the closest to our home.
Where has that year gone? While we took our time getting to know each other at first, by the end of April when Terry and her son moved into their new house, I did as well. We haven't looked back since, and even though we don't have any plans to get married in the immediate future, when I decided a couple months ago to take a small loan out against my house to pay for a new roof on hers, she asked me jokingly if I was sure I wanted to do it, knowing what it meant.
We both laughed when I said it was almost more binding than a ring...
Will we someday? I don't know, maybe. Maybe not. We have both talked about how as we get older, the piece of paper just isn't as important.
What is important is that we have found a level of love and trust with each other that neither of us has ever experienced in our lives before, and we know how rare that can be in this world.
And we still laugh about that first reply on craugskust.
