I've had this post floating around in my unfinished post bin for a while now, and since nothing else is coming to mind to write about (well, at least that I want to talk about...), I thought this would a good time to put it up.
I know many people use lots of songs to identify who is calling them, my friends Drama and Mike do. I'm old(er) school, and only use two songs on my phone, one for my text messages:
Viva La Vida - Coldplay
and one for phone calls:
Learning To Fly - Tom Petty
My Nokia phone allows me to download songs right off my computer, so I can use any song I like, the problem is in finding a tune that starts off strong enough to be heard as a ring, many songs start out too quietly. But now that Viva La Vida by Coldplay is getting airtime on the radio, I've been doing little double takes in my head and almost reaching for my phone when the song comes on....
I like my little Aussie phone, except for the fact I can only text and talk on it, because of it's foreign bloodline. But AT&T wireless hasn't come out with another Nokia yet that I want (no, I don't want or need the iPhone). Supposedly they're going to start carrying the N95 down the road with the 5 megapixel camera...
So what ring tones do you guys use? And phones?

17 Walked with me:
Currently I'm using the Samsung C902...it's a nice wee phone, got a pretty good camera on it too.
I have one song as a ringtone, and I use one of the preset beeps as a message tone.
I keep meaning to upload a different song to identify certain groups of people but I've not managed to so far.
I have a basic LG phone and use the most obnoxious, dramatic ringtone I could find (called "Symphony 25").
Wonder what that says about me...hehehhee...be nice :)
I have a bright pink Motorola Razr, LOVE IT, and I also love my ringtone, it's Linus and Lucy, more commonly known as the Charlie Brown theme tune. It never gets old. A couple people have special ringtones too, my family, some friends, such as "Somewhere only We Know" by Keane or "Clocks" by Coldplay.
I have a Samsung something or other. They have a program that allows me to edit songs and use them as ringtones. I use "Summer Song" by Joe Satriani for regular calls, "One Hot Momma" by Trace Adkins for TW's calls, and "Firehouse" by Kiss for FB's calls. Yeah, I'm stupid that way. I'm still working on call songs for CB and LP.
Palm centro (pink)...I have rings for just about everything. For Cam and the house the music from star wars whenever darth vader enters. For Corey ie school or V "crazy" by Gnarls Barkley. MNG "No Air" Jordin Sparks. D "Fear" Sarah MacLaughlin. My girls, like Y and T "Satisfaction" by Eve... Hee shall I go on?
ha ha !
my 11 year old shouting "ring ring!"
I recorded my voice into my mother in law's phone:
"Elizabeth - answer your phone Elizabeth - pick up the damn phone girl... pick up..." etc.
My nokia gps phone - it rings and sounds like a phone.
I use an iphone(early generation) for several practical reasons. Problem, its not loud enough when I'm in transit on the streets of European cities, my Sony 980 was better in that sense, minus the e-mail and web browsing (of course). There is no free lunch, not even a subsidised one!

I took the cheapest phone and my daughter chose a ring tone already loaded on the phone to extend the life of the ringing. I am terrible about the cell (which is also the "home phone" -- why get a landline when we all have cells?) I never know where it is, it is generally turned off, and the message says: "If I'm not answering it's probably because I've lost the cell. But leave a message -- I'll come across it eventually." My kids berate me: What's the point of having a cell if it's always turned off? Oh well... so uncool.
I have a Sony Ericcson, it plays Gamesmaster, by Lost Tribe, a late nineties Trance Classic
I have specific ringtones for specific people.
My Generic Ringtone is Bad Girlfriend by Theory of a Deadman
For K - Hot N Cold by Katy Perry
For JM - Figured You Out by Nickelback
For JD - Ur So Gay by Katy Perry
My Best Friend T - I Kissed a Girl by Katy Perry (see a pattern here??)
My Best Friend C - Theme from Friends
My ex-boyfriend and good friend B - SuperFreak by Rick James
Family Members - We are Family by Sister Sledge
Various Female Friends - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper
Home, Bug's Sitter, and Bug's School - Bug singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Various Male Friends - It's Raining Men
My ex boyfriend PK - Fast Cars and Freedom by Rascal Flatts
Mustang - Who Knows by Natasha Bedingfield
I almost forgot, my text/voice mail message rington is Bug saying, "Momma you have a message!"
I need to update my phone and add a few more personalized ringtones.
I have a Sony Ericsson Z750. I like it ok, the hidden display is pretty cool.
I'm old school, my phone just rings, but the ring came with the phone and didn't cost anything. Love the songs though.
Well, i just recently purchased a blackberry,,i love it! However i'm still learning it... i got the answering and texting using T-9 down pact...
Ring tone when it rings "wish I was a Man"
i haven't figured out how to put certain ring tones with people.. but i've only had it for 2 weeks,,..lol
but when people call, they hear "Buttons" by Pussycat Dolls
like your ring tones too!

I have a Motorola Q9m. Since it is a SmartPhone, I also can get just about anything I want onto it. Currently it is "Your a Mean One Mr. Grinch"
Other recent ringtones have been
Theme from Harry Potter
Eye of the Tiger
All Star
Boring Motorola something or other.
Ring tone used to be "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", but when that stopped being appropriate from a life perspective i switched to the Star Wars theme for the high nerd-value.
Got the new iPhone, and you can (for a fee) make a ring tone out of just about anything--any song, anyways.
So I have a snippet of the James Bond theme song for my main ringer, and a collection of things for my six or eight regular callers. Being an aural person, the designated ringtone is the best caller ID for me.
